Sponsor a Vet

dr l

Why we sponsor vets and their teams - Many of us take for granted here in the UK and elsewhere that when someone qualifies as a veterinarian, they are qualified in all areas of animal medical care. Also spay and neuter is simply an accepted routine part of good animal health care and of course prevents unwanted births.

In Romania the above is the opposite, it is seen to be an easier course of action to simply bludgeon or drown unwanted pups than to goto to the trouble of taking 45 mins out of there day to get there dogs/cats neutered. It is well known that even in this day and age , that some professors of animal veterinary universities are teaching their student vets to " Blood let" and carrying out painful, even open surgical procedures without anaesthetic let alone teach neuter and spay.

This is why veterinarians such as Dr Lidia Nistor and her medical team from Botosani (Pic left) are so desperately needed in Romania. Like all caring modern vets, Lidia knows the importance of neutering animals safely and humanely, and certainly under anaesthetic followed by a course of antibiotics and rest for the animal. Dr Lida as is Dr Aurelian Stefan (aka Dr A) another good friend of our charity, are a modern breed of Romanian veterinarians who are very much up against the old school mentality.

These guys need to be encouraged and supported to keep their good work going. Not only do they benefit the animals that they treat, but they are at the forefront of encouraging other young vets to follow suit.

This is why we sponsor Lidia and her team, because no animal deserves to be butcherd and we are here to help Dr Lidia and others keep up the amazing work.

How sponsoring a vet works -

It is a very simple really, what we do is we fund raise and collect medical items to send to Dr Lidia. She and her team store these in readiness for when they will be needed. We know how much it costs per animal to spay and neuter and so when Lidia hears of a shelter, a group, a region where she and her team are needed she organises a spayathon where local people are encouraged to attend and have their animals neutered free of charge.

Also regular monthly clinics are planned, such as the one currently being organised in Radauti by Dr Lidia where she and her team will be attending the public shelter to neuter every single female in there. This will not only stop unwanted births, but will help stop the spread of disease and calm any aggression between the males and females. This in turn makes the shelter a much healthier and safer environment for the animals that unfortunately have found themselves in there.

How you can help -
Every penny counts: It costs approx 22 Euros to spay a female and 17 Euros to neuter a male. When you learn that a breeding pair in their lifetime can produce from them and there young 67,000 unwanted births you will understand what any donation you can make really will save lives.

You can either choose to donate as much as you can spare or if able, ask your own vet to donate medical equipment to help Lidia and her team carry out there important work.

To financially donate, simply visit our donation page and choose the option that best suits you. Please remember to add a ref to let us know what your donation is to be allocated towards. " Sponsor a vet" or " S/N" will let us know where you wish your donation to go
